#30DaysOfMe Day 24: A letter to my parents
Dear Mum and Dad, I miss you guys a lot. I remember being able to just hop on the phone and you’d be awake, now it’s all about clock watching and working out when you’re awake and likely to be close to a computer so we can skype and you can see Sophie. I’m sorry that we’re not closer but I had to move. The UK, while I feel honoured to have been brought up...
#30DaysOfMe Day 23: Craving
Most of the time I crave a bit of peace and quiet. I love to be able to find time to just sit and contemplate/read and find those times are just too few and far between.I’m at the point in my life where everything is moving along at such a rapid pace I just want it to slow down for a while.. I crave sleep a lot at the moment too for obvious reasons.
#30DaysOfMe Day 22: What makes me different
I’m a very different kind of character and I would sum my main points of difference as: Never holding a grudge, never really disliking anyone (I won’t go out of my way to be friendly to anyone but I’ve never hated anyone) Logical over emotional, I’m just more likely to make a logical choice than an emotional one Respectful: I’d like to think of myself as respectful of...
#30DaysOfMe Day 21: Happy
This is the thing that makes me happy (and sad, and sleep deprived)
#30DaysOfMe Day 20: Marrying
Hmm, not really a question for me as I’m happily married. One of the best things I ever did by the way.
#30DaysOfMe Day 19: Nicknames
Hmm, beyond cruel names that people have called me I don’t really know of many nicknames.. possibly:Toe-Thumbs: because of my clubbed thumbsMuffin Man: This one followed me through primary school as in the first school play i was the muffin man and had to ring a bell while singing “here I am the muffin man”. I hear I was cute back in the 80s My online handle tends to be...
#30DaysOfMe Day 18: Plans and Goals
I’ve already insinuated my plans and dreams but here’s more of an official run down:1) be self employed by 302) be running/helping run a successful company (success means hiring more than just me, as they say a company is either growing or shrinking, I’d like to grow) 3) be financially capable of returning to the UK every couple of years with my daugter4) to be happy O
#30DaysOfMe Day 17: Swap
Someone I’d want to swap places with for a day:Interesting question, heros are easy, I’d like to have an insight into their day to day running, people that were able to get up and running and create a company from nothing… Rod, Sam, those kind of people would be my obvious choice. Beyond that I’d like to be able to see the world from my daughters perspective and see what...

#30DaysOfMe Day 14: Family
the most complete photo of me and my family I’ve had for a while, we’re all so spread out (Sydney AU, Wellington NZ, Cardiff UK, Glasgow UK and my Aunty who lives in Melbourne AU) only my daughter is missing (as she wasn’t born) so here’s a shot of her
#30DaysOfMe Day 13: Letter
I can’t say anyone has ever truely hurt me, I’m just not emotional enough to get into such petty squabbles…so instead I’m going to write an open letter to myself. So, lets take a moment to take stock…This is you as you were 5 years ago 5 years ago… not really that long… since then you have Met a girl who turned into your wife.Moved as far away as it was...

#30DaysOfMe Day 12: Blogging
I was at university when blogging really started to hit, there’s weren’t that many blogs about but writing some software seemed like a good challenge for me and so I went about scripting my own blog server. It worked quite well at the time but eventually I just moved to one of the more feature complete pieces of software as you can see my first post was in...
#30DaysOfMe Day 11: Friends 2
A very different group of people this time. These jokers are the first people to adopt me as a friend when I arrived into the country (as you can tell from their outfits they’re a silly bunch so it’s perhaps not surprising) They’re a bunch of volunteers for Camp Quality, a very noble charity I’ve become involved in through my wife, and this was the first time I got to meet...
#30DaysOfMe Day 10: Songs
I have to say I’m not not one for listening to specific music, often I just have my iphone on shuffle and go through the day like that. Most of my music falls into Soundtracks/Scores and Dance/Electronica but I have a lot of eclectic other music on my player I’m also a big fan of The Michael Jackson ever since I used to dance around the living room in fluffy slippers (true story)So when...
#30DaysOfMe Day 9: Proud
While there are a number of things to be proud at working at Xero (creating a kick ass software suite from nothing has been an awesome ride) there’s not much that I can say I’ve managed to achieve in the last few days… I’m not saying I haven’t managed to overcome some great technical hurdles and got some code ready for QA that I thought wouldn’t be ready for a...
#30DaysOfMe Day 8: Short Term Goals
October is always a bit of an in-between month, halfway through Spring/Autumn (depending on which hemisphere), as such my planning starts to take a hiatus for a wee while. I’m hoping this month I finish reading a few books: Surface Detail the new Ian M Banks novel Founders at Work The E-Myth Revisited yes that’s two business books in there, I’m hoping by the end of the...
#30DaysOfMe Day 7: My Dad
Me and my father. My father, Dr Alan Evans, is the person who has had some of the biggest influences on how I came to be who I am. He’s the person I strive to make proud, and I’m disappointed when I do things that I know he wouldn’t approve of. During university and up until I met Katy I had a very bad track record of keeping on top of finances and built up big debts, my...
#30DaysOfMe Day 6: Batman
My favorite super hero would have to be Batman, simply because unlike most of the rest he’s not actually got any super powers just lots of cool gadgets… Also he’s a slightly darker super hero than the others, making him (in my opinion) a much more believable character. So Batman, definitely batman
#30DaysOfMe Day 5: Lankawi
Lankawi in Malasia. I visited Lankawi with my parents and some of their friends in 2006. I’m very lucky to have parents who have been able to take me on such trips and a father who adores sailing. As such I’ve seen some amazing sites and this photo just sums up some of the beauty I’ve seen. That’s my dad’s silhouette too

#30DaysOfMe Day 4: Habit
A habit i wish I didn’t have: Wow, there are so many to choose from, I’m aware I have some really bad habits, when concentrating on something my mind will wander and I’ll stop controlling those stupid things, but probably my tendency to exaggerate for effect. It close enough to compulsive lying at times, and I tell myself off every time, but I have a tendency to embellish...
